We have a super rare and correct restored 1970 Chevrolet SS 454 LS5 Convertible with a real #512 block 454 cubic inch monster big block engine, 4-speed manual transmission, 12-bolt read end, white convertible top and interior, red paint, and air conditioning!
It is not often that you will find a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS LS5 454 convertible with those options and a white bucket seat interior that has a lot of originality too and looks as it did when it was new.
Chevelle’s are immensely popular cars and none are so much highly sought after as the 1970 model packing that big block 454 LS5 engine. Recent documentation now confirms that fewer LS5 cars were produced than LS6 cars in 1970 and the LS5 Chevelle is actually rarer than the LS6 Chevelle.
Of those LS5 cars, only 91 of them were fitted in convertibles with only 70 or so being 4-speeds, let alone this one has factory air conditioning and the #75 code red paint and #791 code Ivory interior, with the Ivory top also!

Mechanical
Under the hood of this 1970 Chevelle SS is its #512 block LS5 454 cubic inch V8 engine painted in the correct Chevrolet factory orange paint with a lot of factory correct parts on it like the four-barrel carburetor, hydraulic cam and kit, correct factory type chrome valve covers and air cleaner, power steering and power brakes with factory front disc brakes, air conditioning, and factory cast iron exhaust headers flowing back to the dual exhaust.
The engine bay is highly detailed as is the chassis with the dual exhaust running out under the rear bumper thru chrome tips on each side, F41 sway bars front & rear, and the 4-speed manual transmission that runs to a 12-bolt rear end.
Add in and the good grip of wide Firestone Wide Oval raised white letter tires mounted on the factory 5-spoke SS wheels and you get this big block which is a true driver’s machine.
Interior
The SS Package included the Dual Exhaust System, Special Domed Hood, Black-Accented Grille, Power Disc Brakes, Sport Wheels, Wide-Oval White Lettered Tires, Wheel Opening Moldings, Black Resilient Rear Bumper Panel, Bright Engine Accents, Special Chassis Features, Astro Ventilation, Hide-A-Way Wipers, Glove Compartment Light, Carpeting, Front Seat Back Latches, Front Shoulder Belts, Lighter, Luggage Compartment Mat, Head Restraints.
The Ivory Strato bucket seat with headrest and matching rear seat interior looks as good as it did when new. Everything looks correct and just like it came from the factory back in 1970.
It even has the factory dash housing the optional U14 round gauge package that includes the 5500 RPM tachometer, accessory gauge package, chrome 4-speed manual shifter in the center console, SS steering wheel, black carpet, white door panels, and rear seat.
The result is a Chevelle SS that feels like a time piece as it is in excellent condition top to bottom.
Exterior
Our Chevelle is finished #91 Red paint flowing over the cowl induction hood with the white SS stripes, super straight factory panels, blacked-out grilles, rear panel, bulging fenders, and the power white convertible top.
The chrome bumpers, wheel arch trim, Chevelle and SS 454 badging really look great and draw people to the car at shows or even gas stations, and even the chassis looks super clean too.
